Old Bridge, NJ – Jan. 4, 2018 – The Old Bridge Public Library is hosting myriad opportunities for English as a Second Language (ESL) learning for the community.
The Library will offer Rosetta Stone and Pronunciator for Adult ESL Learners classes on Tues. Jan. 8th at 7pm, and Wed. Jan. 16th at 10am. These sessions will demonstrate how Rosetta Stone and Pronunciator language resources can help ESL students learn and improve English language speaking and reading skills. While open to all adults, this workshop has been specially created for those whose primary language is not English. Information presented will only cover the ESL sections of Pronunciator and Rosetta Stone. Registration is required by calling 732-721-5600 x5033 or online at: www.oldbridgelibrary.org.
In addition, general ESL classes will be held at the Central Branch on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30pm, and on Wednesday mornings from 10 – 11:30am. Two sessions are available; the Tuesday evening classes begin February 5th and the Wednesday morning classes start February 6th. Both classes are available to Old Bridge residents only, and generally end in mid-May.
Registration begins Monday, January 14th and must be done in-person at the Adult and Information Services desk at the Central Branch of the Library. Classes are free to residents and are taught in small groups by trained volunteers. Due to the popularity of the sessions and the limited space, residents are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid being shut out. The Library hosts a potluck meal on the last day of class, where all the students (and tutors) are encouraged to bring a dish representative of their country of origin, and eligible students receive a Certificate of Achievement.
In addition, the Library has partnered with Literacy NJ to provide ESL classes at the Laurence Harbor Branch on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 12:30pm, beginning on Feb. 2nd and running through June 22nd. Students will practice speaking and reading and writing in English. A children’s craft will also be offered during class time. In-person registration will be held on Sat. Jan. 19th from 10:30am-12pm at the Laurence Harbor branch, located at 277 Shoreland Circle. More information is available by calling 732-906-5456.
