Old Bridge, NJ – March 6, 2017 – The Old Bridge Public Library is presenting two interesting programs this month in celebration of Women’s History Month.
On Thurs. March 23, New Jersey photojournalist Jim DelGiudice will present, “Agents of Change: Famous NJ Women” at 7pm. From Dr. Virginia Apgar, inventor of the APGAR score for newborns, to legendary Revolutionary War heroine Temperance Wick, New Jersey women have been integral to American history. While the lives and contributions of these pioneers don’t fit a specific category, what they do have in common is both their energy and the sense of purpose they brought to their lives. In this informative lecture, DelGiudice will examine the stories of these passionate individuals as well as the social context of the times they lived in. A few of the other personalities discussed will be socialite Doris Duke, business executive Carly Fiorina, restaurateur Alice Waters, actress Bebe Neuwirth, and politician Millicent Fenwick. DelGiudice has used his eyes and voice to document the New Jersey scene for more than 25 years. He has been awarded the state’s Historic Preservation Award twice for architectural photography for books published by Rutgers University Press, and he was cited by both the state and county legislatures for his lifetime contribution to the arts. He is an adjunct assistant professor at the County College of Morris, and also lectures frequently at Drew and Columbia Universities. On Sun. March 26th at 2pm, actress Michele LaRue will bring her one-woman presentation, “Tales Well Told: Women Breaking Loose” to the Library. She will transport people to the turn of the century through the dramatic reading of two short stories – “A Pair of Silk Stockings” by Kate Chopin and “Representing T.A. Buck” by Edna Ferber. LaRue creates a full cast of characters for each tale that will instantly bring the audience back to this enchanting time. LaRue, a member of SAG and AFTRA, has performed extensively throughout the United States in both her historical one-woman shows and in regional theatrical productions. The Old Bridge Public Library was recently voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
