Old Bridge, NJ – April 5, 2016 – As a result of the funding received from a recent Dia grant, the Old Bridge Public Library will present three youth programs in April that celebrate cultural diversity.  The Tuesday night programs are geared towards children of all ages and their families.

On Tues. April 5th at 7 pm, the Library will present a “Same Same but Different” program, celebrating and sharing who we are and what makes us special, with stories and a craft.  The session will explore how we are all unique, yet the same.

On Tues. April 12th at 7 pm, there will be a “Ukrainian Folk Tales and Craft” program, which will explore popular tales of the region such the story of Baba Yaga and the friendship between the cat and the rooster.   After the stories, participants will make a craft related to the tales.

On Tues. April 19th at 7 pm, there will be a “Let’s Explore India Story Time and Craft” which will examine one of the oldest civilizations in the world.  Children will learn about India through story time and a craft.

The Library was recently awarded a “Dia” grant from the American Library Association’s Association for Library Service to Children division. Funded by the Dollar General Corp., the Dia grant (El día de los niños/El día de los libros – Children’s Day/Book Day), focuses on the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.  In addition to funding multi-cultural programming, the $2,000 grant will be used to purchase 10 Playaway Launch Pads, which are secure, pre-loaded learning tablets created for children’s use in a library setting.

The Old Bridge Public Library was recently voted “Best Public Library in Middlesex County” by the readers of the Home News Tribune. The Library is open seven-days-a-week and is located at 1 Old Bridge Plaza at the corner of Rt. 516 and Cottrell Road in the Municipal Center.
