Old Bridge, NJ – March 11, 2016 – The Old Bridge Public Library will offer two performing arts programs next month, a production of the popular play, “Almost, Maine” and a concert by the Carnaby Street Duo.
The Library’s popular Second Saturday free concert series continues on Sat. April 9th at 2:30pm with a performance by local group the Carnaby Street Duo. The duo, primarily known for the music of the 1960s, will present a tribute to the Rolling Stones. The group plays music from the British Invasion, along with various American artists including the Beatles, the Kinks, The Who, The Byrds, The Moody Blues and The Dave Clark Five. The Carnaby Street Duo consists of Chris Roselle (guitar/vocals) and Pete Bremy (bass guitar/vocals). The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
On Sunday, April 17th at 1pm, the Hudson Shakespeare Company will present “Almost, Maine” at the Library. This play, by John Cariani, comprises nine short scenes and 19 characters that explore love and loss in a remote, charming community called Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often humorous ways. The play premiered at the Portland Stage Company in Portland, Maine in 2004 where it broke box office records and garnered critical acclaim and is currently the most popular play produced in high schools in the US. The Hudson Shakespeare Company is a regional Shakespeare touring festival based in Jersey City, NJ, that produces an annual summer Shakespeare in the Park festival and often features lesser done Shakespearean plays. It also produces a yearly educational program that ranges from student workshops to full length Shakespeare productions in a variety of locations. The performance is free and appropriate for teenagers and adults.
