Old Bridge, NJ – July 7, 2017 — The Old Bridge Library has enhanced its online resources with the introduction of Kanopy, a comprehensive collection of over 30,000 films, ranging from documentaries, to indie and foreign films, to must-see classics and blockbuster movies. This on-demand streaming video service is only available to public libraries and at 3,000 top universities. It provides library patrons, students and faculty access to this unique collection. Kanopy was created in 2008 in Australia in response to a growing need and desire from students who loved learning through film. The company’s goal was to create a method for libraries to find, acquire and stream exceptional and worthy films. Kanopy videos can be viewed on a range of devices and platforms including Roku, Apple, Android, and Windows.
Along with feature films and documentaries, Kanopy also offers over 6,000 videos about various cultures, including African, Asian, Australian, European and Indigenous studies. There are also thousands more informational and instructional videos in myriad areas such the arts, business, and health and sciences, with hundreds added each month. In addition, users can also access over 2,600 lectures from the well-respected The Great Courses catalogue, in subjects ranging from history to math to religion. To use Kanopy, patrons simply need to log on to the Library’s website, www.oldbridgelibrary.org, and scroll down to the Kanopy button on the page. Users will then be instructed to enter their library card number.
“Kanopy is truly a film-lover’s dream,” noted Library Director Nancy Cohen. “Patrons will be able to easily access thousands of unique, hard-to-find films and instructional videos on many popular technology platforms and the service will complement our comprehensive online resources.”
The Old Bridge Public Library was recently voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
