Old Bridge, NJ – July 10, 2017 — Internationally recognized harpist Michael Rooney will make a rare US appearance at the Old Bridge Library on Wed. July 19th at 7pm.
A Senior All-Ireland Harp champion, Rooney was raised in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, and is a music graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast. In addition to performing, he is a tutor, composer, and producer of Irish music. He was a recipient of the 2017 Gradam Ceoil Composer of the Year award, which acknowledges excellence in traditional Irish music. Rooney spent three years working for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, an organization that promotes Irish traditional music, and produced the Comhaltas tours of Britain, Ireland and America during that time. He has recorded with The Chieftains on their Grammy award-winning CD entitled “The Celtic Harp” and toured the US with the group. The Library recently enhanced its community room where concerts and various large events are held with a new 130-inch motorized screen, five high definition speakers, a 4K projector and new video camera to ensure outstanding audio-visual experiences.
The Old Bridge Public Library was recently voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
