Old Bridge, NJ – Dec. 2, 2016 — With the goal of bringing literacy to the grassroots level, the Old Bridge Public Library, in partnership with the Little Free Library organization, has built and erected two Little Free libraries in Old Bridge. The small, self-contained structures were built under the supervision of the Library with assistance from the Old Bridge Boy and Girl Scouts. They are located at the Old Bridge Park and Ride commuter lots on Route 9 North and Westminster Boulevard and Route 9 North and Inverness Drive.

The Little Free Libraries will be maintained by the Old Bridge Public Library and will be stocked with books donated to the Library.  Residents are encouraged to take, share and donate books to and from the libraries, and to leave notes for fellow users. Books can be returned to any Little Free Library or passed on to a friend.

“We truly share the organization’s mission of promoting literacy, a love of reading and building a sense of community” noted Old Bridge Library Director Nancy Cohen. “We hope these Little Free Libraries help connect the community and bring joy to our residents.”

There are currently nearly 50,000 Little Free Libraries globally in 70 countries around the world. The Little Free Library nonprofit organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association. The first Little Free Library was built in 2009. Each year, over 10 million books are shared in Little Free Libraries; more information can be found at www.littlefreelibraries.org.
