Old Bridge, NJ – Jan. 31, 2017 – Teens can play with robots, celebrate a Harry Potter character, improve their Rubik’s Cube skills and get locked-in the Old Bridge Public Library in February.
Programs geared for teens in grades 6-12 are as follows:
Early College Planning: Wed., Feb. 8th from 7-8:30pm.
This informative workshop presented by College GPS will explain the benefits of early college planning. Attendees will learn the advantages of early planning, when to get started, how to select colleges, and strategies for saving money and taking advantage of financial aid. The workshop is suitable for families of middle schoolers through high school juniors.
Teen Book Club: Thurs. Feb. 9th at 7pm.
The Library’s new “Fellowship of the Bookworms” book club will discuss a new book each month where members get to decide what to read, covering all genres and formats. For the first meeting, teens are asked to bring their favorite book to talk about, and will then pick future reads together with the group.
Teen Lock-In: Sat. Feb. 11th from 4:30-10:00pm.
This popular event allows teens to get locked in the Library after hours. Kids are invited to a special anti-Valentine’s Day lock-in to enjoy food, games and activities; they are not allowed to arrive late or leave early. Participants must register at www.oldbridgelibrary.org and have permission slips signed. Permission slips are available at the Youth Service desk and may be handed in upon arrival. Please note any health issues or food allergies when registering.
Teen Advisory Board Meeting: Thurs. Feb. 16th at 7pm.
The Library’s Advisory Board gives teens an opportunity to volunteer for fun projects that benefit the community as well as have a say in deciding what events, books and space the Library offers them. No sign-up is required, teens can attend whichever projects and meetings fit their schedule, and community service time is given for meetings and events.
Rubik’s Cube Club: Fri. Feb. 17th at 4:30pm.
This regular club allows teens to work on their puzzle completion skills and times by competing against others or themselves. A small supply of Rubik’s Cubes are available to borrow for those who don’t have their own.
Robots in the Library: Tues. Feb. 21st at 7pm.
Teens will have a chance to explore robotics as they play with Sphero and Code-a-pillar and try to maneuver around obstacles. It will provide a great opportunity to interact with new friends as they take the fun, nimble robots for a test drive.
Let’s Celebrate Snape: Mon. Feb. 27th at 7pm.
Love him or hate him, Snape was integral to keeping Harry Potter alive. In honor of the late Alan Rickman’s birthday, this program is devoted to this important literary character.
The Old Bridge Public Library was recently voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
