Position Description: Substitute Librarian Part-time- $31.80/hour

Reports to:: Managing Librarian of Adult or Youth Services as assigned

General Statement of Duties: Acts in place of an absent Librarian to provide Reference and Readers’ Advisory Services to patrons of the Old Bridge Public Library and its branches.  Participates in related Library activities as assigned.

Responsibilities of this position include by are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in planning and implementing the goals and objectives of the assigned Library Departments and the Old Bridge Public Library
  • Works cooperatively with other staff, departments and branches in keeping with the Library’s Mission Statement and goals and objectives
  • Works on an as-needed basis determined by the Director/designee of the Library
  • Works weekdays, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays as assigned
  • Manages, coordinates and participates in special projects as assigned
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Provides prompt, courteous and friendly Reference and Readers’ Advisory Services to the public using a broad range of formats
  • Assists customers in the use of the public catalog, computers, bibliographies and other materials and sources
  • Provides interlibrary loan and Information and Referral Services
  • Provides formal training and instruction in the effective use of electronic resources for the public
  • Promotes the use of Library services and programs
  • May develop and design Library displays
  • Presents a positive impression of the Old Bridge Public Library and the Library profession
  • Presents a neat and business-like appearance

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited library
  • Must have or be eligible to have New Jersey Public Librarian Certification
  • Must have basic knowledge of current library principles and practices
  • Must have knowledge of basic and specialized reference materials
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing
  • English language fluency in written and spoken form
  • Possess non-judgmental attitude, empathy for others, sense of humor and friendliness
  • Flexibility and dependability in meeting customer and library needs
  • Work a flexible scheduled which includes evening and weekend hours
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel between libraries and to community and professional meetings and workshops
  • Proficiency with computers, MS Office Suite and various other software packages. Ability and willingness to learn the use of new or unfamiliar equipment and software

Physical Requirements:
Performs work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. The work requires reaching, fingering and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level, visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.

Library Assistant – Substitute Part-time: $17.34 per hour

Presents a positive impression of the Old Bridge Public Library and the Library Presents a neat and business-like appearance.

The Old Bridge Public Library seeks a part-time Substitute Library Assistant to assist with tasks at the Central Library and/or Laurence Harbor location.

Proficiency in verbal and written communication in the English language is needed.

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; knowledge of office procedures and a variety of office equipment, as well as proper telephone etiquette are essential.

The successful candidate(s) for this position must be available to work on weekdays including evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and on call as needed. Schedules must be followed and are assigned according to Library’s need and may be subject to change.

Candidates that meet or exceed the basic criteria for this position must submit a resume and may be scheduled for an interview. The Library requires that a criminal background check be performed before an offer of employment can be made.

When qualifications are equal, Old Bridge residents will be given preference.

Position Description:    Supervisor of Information Technology Services

Reports to:                       Library Director

General Statement of Duties: Advises the Library Director on technology related matters, including the procurement of hardware and software. Ensures that computers and peripherals are available for use at all times. Supports and instructs staff and patrons in the use of technologies. Manages the operation of all social media sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises assigned staff, including scheduling, training, and designating tasks, as well as reviewing workflow and procedures to ensure maximum quality and efficiency.
  • Identifies methods of training staff in the use of various technologies.
  • Provides assigned staff with periodic verbal and written evaluations.
  • Develops and presents programs/workshops/classes on a variety of technology related topics of interest to the public, on and off site.
  • Maintains appropriate records related to software licenses, warranties, network configurations and topology, performance, and condition.
  • Performs routine hardware testing, maintenance, and repair.
  • Makes recommendations on hiring of any outside consultants as needed.
  • Oversees third parties involved in the installation, configuration, and repair of computers, peripherals, and network equipment.
  • Serves as webmaster and performs maintenance of the Library’s website.
  • Assists in developing technology plans for the library, and recommending updates.
  • Assists in developing a technology-based annual budget for the Library.
  • Oversees the operation of all social media sites and platforms.
  • Works with appropriate library staff to seek and implement grant funding for both new and continuing projects.
  • Develops proficiency in setting up and operating remote meeting online.
  • Submits monthly and annual reports on the progress of objectives as assigned.
  • Works days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Provides after-hours support as needed.
  • Participates in, and encourages staff to participate in, professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains an appropriate professional appearance in dress and manner at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Degree and/or certification in a computer science related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least three years of experience in computer network operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Working knowledge of the Windows operating system and software programs such as Microsoft 365, as well as other public access technologies and applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: flexibility, initiative, teamwork, staff and customer relations. 
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach and grasp, hand write or use computer keyboard. Vision sufficient to see/read, perceive color, prepare and analyze written and computer data, operate equipment, and determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work as well as observe general surroundings and activities. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing as needed.  Ability to lift or move 10 pounds or more on occasion.

Salary:  
Salary is $60,222.66
