Old Bridge, NJ – June 28, 2016 – The Old Bridge Public Library is expanding its summer programming with three multi-week classes and sessions for children and adults. New offerings include Learning About Linux computer programming classes, Broadcast Bootcamp sessions and Jedi Training Camp. Details follow:

Learning About Linux: Four consecutive Sundays from 2-4pm: July 10, 17, 24 & 31.

Linux is an open source operating system (similar to Window 10 and Mac OS X) and the software “brains” that manages all of the hardware resources associated with desktop, laptop and handheld devices.  The advantage of open source is that almost every storage platform, mobile, TV, web servers and many consumer electronics products run with some form of Linux.  This class will be working with CentOS 7.  Registration is required and topics will include:

  • Installing CentOS 7 on physical/virtual computer: basic Linux tools (commands, compression, archiving, vim editor); working with files and file permissions
  • Managing users & groups: partitioning and managing disk storage; constructing and managing file system and swap
  • Controlling Access through firewall: managing network interface and network clients

Broadcast Bootcamp: Five consecutive Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm:

July 27, Aug. 3, 10, 17 & 24

Presented by Kidz Hub Media Network, this five week media-packed broadcast bootcamp will teach kids all the basics about video production.  Participants will gain valuable broadcast skills as they learn about broadcast writing, shooting, video and audio editing, and production leadership skills. The camp is open to students in grades 6-12. Registration is required and participants must be able to attend all five sessions.

Jedi Training Camp:  Wednesdays at 3pm:  July 6, 13, 20 & 27

Calling all aspiring Jedi knights! Join the Jedi Training Camp and learn how to defeat the force. Open to kids ages 7-12. One-time registration required.
