Old Bridge, NJ – July 18, 2017—Patrons will have an opportunity to explore sharks and the coral reefs — on dry land — at the Old Bridge Public Library this month.

On Sun. July 23rd at 2:30pm, the Library’s monthly InQuire science program will feature “Coral Reef CSI.”  The session will allow attendees to explore the coral reefs and learn about their unique environment.  It will also discuss the effects human actions are having on these beautiful reefs. Participants will have a chance to conduct several hands-on activities to investigate the health of the reefs as well. The program is geared for ages 10 and older and will be presented by Amy Penney from the Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium.

On Sat. July 29th at 11am, Steve Woyce will present “The Magic of Sharks” a 45-minute shark-themed magic show that is both educational and entertaining.  Geared for children of all ages, attendees will learn numerous shark facts during this high-energy comedy magic show.  Volunteers will help build a shark by “magic,” play “Fish or Fin,” explore a treasure chest filled with “things that are more dangerous than a shark,” and learn why the White-Tip Shark is known as the most magical shark in the ocean. Woyce has been professionally educating and entertaining children for nearly 20 years on a variety of science topics and makes regular appearances at libraries, camps, fairs and school assemblies.  He is also the author of “The Amazing World of Turtles.

“We are pleased to offer these exciting programs which also happen to coincide with the Discovery Channel’s popular Shark Week,” noted Library Director Nancy Cohen, “and tie in with our summer reading program’s emphasis on STEM activities.”
