December’s Selection:  LaRose by Louise Erdrich (2016)

All are welcome to join us as we discuss Louise Erdrich’s novel LaRose.

Plot Summary: Having accidentally killed his friend’s 5-year-old son while hunting, Landreaux Iron gives away his own son to his friend’s family according to tradition, leading to a tenuous peace that is threatened by a vengeful adversary.

About the Author: Louise Erdrich uses complex plots and an array of characters to draw the reader into an exploration of life in rural North Dakota. Her stories examine friendship, love, and family interactions, and both the happiness and the pain these relationships bring. Drawing from her own heritage, Erdrich’s stories explore the intersection of the European immigrant culture and the Native American culture, seen particularly in the spiritual thread that is woven into these stories.  Erdrich won the National Book Award for Fiction in 2012 for her novel The Round House.
